Chelsea wonderkid steals the show as Arsenal and Max Dowman upstaged in rout

Chelsea proved that Arsenal aren't the only team pumping out world-class wonderkids during Saturday's U21 clash in Borehamwood, as Cobham Next Gen ran out 4-1 winners over the Gunners

Reggie Watson stole the show for Cobham Next Gen during Saturday's U21 clash with Arsenal, proving that the Blues also have their fair share of blooming prospects.

Summer signing, Igor Tyjon, featured from the outset for the Gunners, alongside teenage sensation, Max Dowman, and the highly-rated Marli Salmon.

However, that's not to say that Chelsea's youth system wasn't also armed to the teeth with exciting homegrown prodigies.

The Blues ultimately managed a 4-1 win in Borehamwood, controlling the game for the duration with the lions' share of the possession and more shots on target.

Leo Black opened the scoring for Chelsea just 14 minutes into play, before Watson ensured that Calum McFarlane's men headed into half-time with a two-goal lead from the penalty spot moments before the turn.

Watson bagged his brace for the day with around 20 minutes left to play, before James Scanlon gave the hosts a glimmer of hope moments later.

That goal proved to be all but a consolation prize for Arsenal, however, with Chizaram Ezenwata wrapping up a 4-1 win late into stoppage time.

It comes as another promising performance from Watson, who is coming on leaps and bounds in his development as a player.

The 16-year-old became part and parcel of the U18 set-up at Cobham during his U16s season, playing a major role as the club won the Southern and National Premier League titles.

He also enjoyed plenty of pre-season minutes as part of Xabi Alonso's first-team this summer, before making his official senior debut for the club in the Carabao Cup against Leeds United earlier this month.

Watson featured for the entirety of the first-half in that clash, as Chelsea stormed to a 6-3 win over their Premier League rivals.

While it's a little too soon for the midfielder to feature regularly with the first-team, it's a promising sign that the talented youngster could well end up breaking into the Chelsea first team in the near future, similarly to Dowman with Arsenal.
