Who saw this coming when the lineups were announced???

Malick Fofana surely ends the tie after heading in from Jocelin Ta Bi's cross.

11 changes, no problem! Huge questions for Keith Andrews to answer.

GOAL! PALACE LEAD!

Palace have already won at Craven Cottage this season and lead again here through Eddie Nketiah.

It's a lovely finish and totally against the run of play. Big goal for both club and player.

A wayward effort from Moisés Caicedo gives us the first shot of the match in the 22nd minute.

A thriller.

Chelsea have not really got going despite having much of their current best XI out there.

Very few openings at Anfield but early yellows for two Liverpool youngsters.

Lewis Koumas and James McConnell are both in the book. They'll need to be careful.

GOALS! SUNDERLAND 2-0!

The Black Cats strike twice in no time!

Chemsdine Talbi gets the first, tapping it over the line after Brentford stand-in Hakon Valdimarsson makes a mess of a routine save.

Tymur Tutierov smashes in from close range shortly after in a huge three minutes for Régis Le Bris.

And it's come from the unlikely source of Mateo Kovačić.

A neat dummy from Floyd Samba and a layoff from Phil Foden tees up the Croatian to fire in off the post.

His first goal in 18 months for the club.

While Henderson and Alonso are the obvious ones to look out for here, Rio Ngumoha did move to Anfield from Chelsea.

How the Blues must rue letting him leave.

GOAL! BRIGHTON LEAD!

They'd just started to pick it up and now the Seagulls are in front at the Etihad.

Malick Yalcouyé breaks the deadlock, hooking the ball home inside the box after Georginio Rutter picks him out.

How will the holders respond? Proper cup tie now.

79th meeting between the two clubs in the 21st century - the most of any two English sides. A staggering number.

There's also been three League Cup finals in that time. 2-1 to Liverpool there.

KICK OFF!

Liverpool and Chelsea get underway as Xabi Alonso looks for his first win on the ground as an opposing manager at the third attempt.

Jordan Henderson's reception should be interesting too...

It's been very even at the Etihad so far with Brighton playing with full confidence.

GOAL!

First goal of the night comes at the Vitality and it's the hosts who've taken the lead after just seven minutes.

Armine Adli gets it, firing in from close range after the ball comes his way in the box.

The Cherries' stunning form continues.

Games underway at the Vitality, Craven Cottage and the Stadium of Light.

Brighton - despite making seven changes - have started well here.

They've not won on their previous 16 visits to the Etihad. Could that run end tonight?

And we're off.

We're moments away from kick off at the Etihad Stadium where both Enzo Maresca and Fabian Hurzeler have made a whole host of changes.

It is the first of two clashes between the clubs in the space of four days with a league clash on this same ground coming on Saturday.

Remarkably, each game is an all-Premier League tie with Manchester City-Brighton and Liverpool-Chelsea the pick of the ties on paper.
