Newcastle star Amar Dedic sparks six-car police swoop after being spotted with a BOW AND ARROWS in Northumberland beauty spot before weapon is seized

Newcastle United star Amar Dedic was at the centre of a major police operation after he was spotted carrying a bow and arrows at a Northumberland beauty spot – with at least SIX patrol cars involved in the search for the £30million defender.

The Bosnia international sparked alarm when a concerned member of the public reported seeing him and a friend walking with the weapon near a reservoir in the countryside outside Newcastle.

Police dispatched marked and unmarked vehicles to the area in Harlow Hill, with some understood to have been armed response units, before Dedic and his companion were finally intercepted around seven miles away in the exclusive Darras Hall estate.

Sources have described the dramatic swoop on Dedic's vehicle before officers searched the car and seized a bow and arrows, with the 24-year-old questioned about his activities.

In a bizarre twist, Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett arrived at the scene while police were speaking to Dedic. It is understood the pair were in the area by chance and stopped to offer assistance.

After speaking to the two men, officers were satisfied there was no threat to the public, with police subsequently stating that the equipment was believed to have been intended for recreational use.

However, enquiries remain ongoing into the incident, which happened on Wednesday afternoon. It is understood that Dedic and his friend had fired some arrows while in the countryside, although it remains unclear what they were aiming at. Hunting any animal or bird with a bow and arrow or crossbow is illegal in the UK.

Dedic joined Newcastle from Benfica during the summer and has impressed at right back despite the club's difficult start to the season.

Daily Mail Sport understands he will not face disciplinary action from Newcastle over the incident, although there is a feeling that the player was naive to believe he could walk around the countryside carrying such weaponry.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: 'Shortly after 1.55pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.

'Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows. At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing.'

Dedic is expected to be available for Saturday's Premier League trip to Fulham, where Newcastle will attempt to halt a run of four defeats in five matches across all competitions.
