We are almost a quarter of the way through 2026/27 Premier League season, which means we can see trends emerging across the division.

The numbers and statistics start to tell a story that could inform us how the rest of the campaign will go, though too early to say for certain how it will shake.

If we look at big chances created, for instance, we find that Manchester City sit top of the list with a whopping 32 BBC in just nine games. And yet they find themselves behind leaders Arsenal on points, even though the Gunners have created half as many.

The most eye-catching thing on the list comes from Merseyside, though; Everton are second with 26 BBC, while Liverpool reside second last with just seven.

That tallies with the eye test when it comes to the Reds at least; Andoni Iraola’s team creates plenty of chances, 103 of them to be precise, which is the fourth-most in the Premier League. But extremely few of them are clearcut. Only Coventry City (5) have created fewer BCC.

Few would have expected the Toffees to be so proficient in this area, yet David Moyes’ side does appear to have more licence to attack than previous iterations.

Meanwhile, Brighton (24) and Bournemouth (22) are just behind City and Everton, while Nottingham Forest (20) are surprisingly in fifth. The Tricky Trees have been desperately unlucky under Oliver Glasner thus far, scoring just six goals from 105 chances created and 152 shots taken overall.

Note: Opta define a BCC as one ‘a player should reasonably be expected to score’.
