Serie A | Napoli 1-1 Lazio: Pedraza own goal hands Allegri a lifeline after quick start from Frattesi

Lazio stayed unbeaten at the top of Serie A but were held to a 1-1 draw by Napoli, as Alfonso Pedraza’s own goal cancelled out Davide Frattesi’s opener and gave under-pressure Max Allegri a point at the Maradona.
Allegri went into the game under heavy pressure after defeats to Juventus and Porto. Aurelio De Laurentiis visited the training ground on Friday, and sporting director Giovanni Manna described the situation before kick-off as “unacceptable”. Gennaro Gattuso, back at his former club, came to Naples having won his last six Serie A games, with no Lazio fans allowed to travel because the fixture was classed as high-risk.

Lazio made the stronger start. Gustav Isaksen fired just wide inside two minutes, and only a flying save from Vanja Milinković-Savić stopped his curling shot in the ninth minute. The Napoli goalkeeper then clawed away Josip Šutalo’s header from a corner.

The visitors went ahead just before the half-hour. Tijjani Noslin led a fast counter and slipped in Frattesi, who arrived late in the box and drilled a low shot past Milinković-Savić for his fourth goal of the season.
Lazio lost Šutalo to a muscular injury soon afterwards, and Napoli grew into the game. They should have equalised in the 42nd minute, when Mathias Olivera’s cutback found Rasmus Højlund two yards out, but Christos Mandas scrambled the Dane’s effort off the line.

Gattuso took off Nuno Tavares at half-time, and his replacement had a costly start. Three minutes into the second half, Noa Lang crossed from the left, and Pedraza, stretching to stop Scott McTominay volleying, turned the ball into his own net.

Napoli pushed for a winner, but Mandas was outstanding. He saved from McTominay at close range and denied Kevin De Bruyne in a one-on-one, and Diogo Leite cleared the loose ball off the line. Olivera also lifted a good chance over the bar.
The game became more open after both coaches went to their benches. Mandas kept out a low shot from substitute Lorenzo Lucca, and Milinković-Savić saved from Matteo Cancellieri at the other end.
The draw takes Lazio to 29 points, two clear of Roma before Inter host Como this evening. Napoli are on 15 points. It’s the first time they’ve taken anything from a Serie A game after going behind this season, but they are still without a clean sheet in eight games.
