Southampton ‘to target’ Man United teenager Jaydan Kamason, but where would he play?

Southampton are weighing a move for Manchester United right-back Jaydan Kamason. The Daily Mail reports the 19-year-old impressed in pre-season and is well regarded at Old Trafford.

An England youth international, he stood out in United's summer games, notably the 5-0 win over Rosenborg.

Preston, Blackburn, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday are keen on a loan, with interest from abroad too. United are in no rush, Kamason is tied to 2028 and Michael Carrick's staff may keep him around the squad until January.

He has featured while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui rest. United want a longer look before considering any cash-in on a homegrown talent.

Right-back was a problem for Saints last season. Mads Roerslev missed most of 2025/26 after joining from Brentford, and that flank suffered.

Eckert at times switched to a 3-4-3 to mask the shortage. Bree was recalled early from Charlton Athletic to plug the gap, exposing shaky squad planning.

Against that backdrop, Kamason would most likely be depth for the under-21s and cover for the seniors. If he settles quickly he could push Bree, and Roerslev's fitness is uncertain.

Time with Roerslev and Bree could sharpen him, and minutes might follow if either stumbles. Overall, it looks a shrewd low-risk move if the fee is sensible, but the short-term likelihood is slim with United set on keeping him until at least January.
