Top 5 all-time Golden State Warriors assist leaders

Stephen Curry has dished out more than 6,000 assists as a member of the Golden State Warriors.

Before they were known as the Golden State Warriors, the team originated in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors. They moved to San Francisco in 1962 and changed their name to the Golden State Warriors in 1971.

Throughout their history, they played at various locations, including Oracle Arena in Oakland, before moving back to San Francisco in 2019 at Chase Center.

They have seven conference titles, 12 division titles, and seven NBA championships, with the most recent being the 2022 season.

Stephen Curry

– 6,743 assists

While Curry is known for his 3-point shooting, he was also one of the engines of the Warriors’ offense that won four championships in eight years. Curry was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

His rise to stardom was slow, as he faced multiple trials early in his career. However, during the 2012-13 season, Curry turned things around and led the Warriors back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2007 We Believe team.

Curry would make his first All-Star team a year later and 11 more throughout his career. He averaged 6.3 apg throughout his 17 years as a Warrior, with his best season in 2014, where he averaged 8.5 apg.

Draymond Green

– 5,324 assists

Green was part of the Warriors’ foundation as they rebuilt their team into years of glory.

As a second-round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Green showcased his unique skillset as an undersized forward in a system that thrived on ball movement and player movement.

Green would see a spike in production during the Warriors’ championship run in 2015, when he became a starter. After that season, he’d average a career-best 7.4 apg as the Warriors broke the all-time season wins record with a 73-9 season.

During his 14 seasons with the team, Green would average 5.6 apg while leading the Warriors offense as the small-ball center.

Guy Rodgers

– 4,855 assists

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rodgers was selected by his hometown team in the 1958 NBA Draft. Rodgers served as the starting point guard and developed into a franchise staple with the team.

He’d spend eight seasons with the Warriors, averaging 8.3 apg. His best assist season as a Warrior came in 1963, when he’d average 10.4 apg and make his first All-Star team. He’d make two more All-Star appearances as a Warrior before being traded to the Chicago Bulls.

Tim Hardaway

– 3,926 assists

Hardaway was selected with the No. 14 overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. A quick guard who was famous for his crossover, Hardaway was part of the infamous Run TMC squad that introduced a new style of basketball with pace and space.

Hardaway would play six seasons for the Warriors, where he’d average 9.3 apg and make three All-Star teams. His best assist average as a Warrior came in the 1993 season, where he’d average 10.6 apg.

Rick Barry

– 3,247 assists

Barry was drafted with the second overall pick in the 1965 NBA Draft when the team was known as the San Francisco Warriors. After spending his first two seasons with the Warriors, he’d play the next four in the ABA before returning to the NBA with the Warriors in 1972.

Barry would be a franchise icon as he was part of the 1975 championship team, bringing the Warriors their third NBA title and first since 1956.

During his eight seasons with the team, Barry averaged 5.1 apg, and during the 1975 championship run, Barry put up numbers across the board, averaging 30.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg and 6.2 apg, which would be his highest assist average during his career.

Barry would make eight All-Star teams as a Warrior before finishing his career with the Houston Rockets.
