Bukayo Saka played just ten minutes of Arsenal’s Champions League draw with Bayern Munich before hobbling off with an injury Mikel Arteta described as ‘concerning’.

The England star went down in pain after a long-range pass and immediately gestured that he would need to come off.

Arsenal’s medical staff treated Saka briefly on the pitch before the 25-year-old hobbled off and was replaced by Eberechi Eze.

Eze, who received criticism after Arsenal’s win at Nottingham Forest at the weekend, made an instant impact, latching onto Martin Odegaard’s superb through ball and beating Manuel Neuer to put the Gunners ahead.

Bayern Munich were level before half-time, however, as Alphonso Davies took advantage of an equally brilliant pass from England captain Harry Kane to slot past David Raya.

Kane put Bayern ahead on the hour mark, converting from the spot after Jurrien Timber conceded a penalty for handling the ball while blocking a shot from England’s record goalscorer.

But Declan Rice ensured Arsenal returned from the Allianz Arena with a point, scoring an 82nd-minute equaliser for the Premier League champions.

While Arsenal will be pleased with their evening’s work against the German champions, there will be concern for Saka after his early withdrawal.

‘We lost Bukayo who was having a great game and we had to adapt,’ Arteta said in his post-match press conference.

‘We are a bit concerned. Whenever a player has to come off with sharp pain, it’s never good news, but we’ll have to wait and see.’

Discussing Arsenal’s performance more generally, Arteta added: ‘That is one of the highest levels we played.

‘Two teams who wanted to press each other and wanted to attack and wanted to play. It was a fascinating game.

‘We started the game incredibly well, we were so dominant. In the second half the game was a bit even and they scored the goals and we had to react, which we did.
