Chelsea make Emi Martinez transfer decision in shock U-turn

Chelsea consider taking swift action after Robert Sanchez’s mistakes against Fulham

Martinez is believed to be open to the move and wants to leave Aston Villa, who have signed Zion Suzuki to become their new first-choice goalkeeper.

Chelsea’s stance all summer has been that they are content with the goalkeepers they have in Robert Sanchez and Mike Penders.

Before Martinez's move to Juventus collapsed, Villa had quoted the Italian club an asking price as £8.5m for the 33-year-old.

But Sanchez made two high-profile errors in Monday’s 3-2 Premier League win over Fulham and Chelsea have now reconsidered their position.

Their interest in Martinez was instigated by intermediaries offering the player to the Blues, who are now mulling over the possibility of signing Martinez and how a deal would move.

Neutrals have described the goalkeeping department as the position most in need of upgrading at Chelsea, yet they have previously shown faith in Sanchez as first-choice for a number of seasons despite some high-profile errors.

Chelsea have plenty of business still to do in the window, with Liam Delap set to join Nottingham Forest for £45million plus £5m in add-ons and Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo all for sale.
