Ethan Ampadu is one booking from a Premier League ban and must avoid a yellow across the next 10 matches. According to Leeds Live, the Leeds United captain sits on four cautions after the 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

Premier League rules state five yellows on or before a team’s 19th gameweek trigger a one-match suspension.

Ampadu was cautioned by referee Michael Salisbury in the 62nd minute for persistent fouling, having committed four in total. He has been booked in each of his past four appearances.

He has five cards in 11 outings across all competitions, though the League Cup caution against Nottingham Forest does not count towards his league tally.

Only Hull City’s Matt Crooks and Aston Villa’s Matty Cash have more Premier League bookings this season. Within Leeds, Jayden Bogle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have three each, and Ao Tanaka has two.

Leeds are joint-11th in the discipline table after nine games with 17 yellows. Newcastle United lead on 24 cards and one red, Coventry City are bottom with 10 yellows and one dismissal.

Leeds will not want to lose Ampadu given his role under Daniel Farke and the club’s winless run. A caution against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday would rule him out of the trip to Chelsea after the international break.

After Chelsea, the Whites face Coventry City, Manchester City, Ipswich Town, Liverpool, Fulham, Aston Villa, Hull City and Everton on New Year’s Day, after which the threshold rises to 10 bookings.
