Manchester United are among three clubs interested in Jean-Philippe Mateta, alongside Atletico Madrid and

Juventus

Crystal Palace are open to selling the France striker, whose contract expires in 2027. Rudy Galetti reports that talks are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

The valuation looks tempting. Galetti states Palace value Mateta at around £25m, a modest fee for a proven Premier League goalscorer. His contract situation, with just two years remaining, strengthens the case for a sale rather than risking a free exit.

Mateta’s record explains the interest. In 2025, only Erling Haaland scored more Premier League goals than the Frenchman, who has developed into one of the division’s most reliable number nines since joining from Mainz in 2021.

United’s interest is not new, though it comes with context. The club were previously linked under former boss Ruben Amorim, who wanted a striker with Premier League experience. Their summer priorities under Michael Carrick have centred on midfield after heavy spending elsewhere.

tried to sign Mateta in January, only for a loan proposal to fall short of Palace’s demands. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have monitored the 28-year-old as they weigh up their attacking options.

Palace’s own situation may accelerate matters. The club have already lost captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City, and manager Oliver Glasner departed at the end of last season, leaving the squad in a period of change.

Mateta’s preference could shape the outcome. He has previously been linked with a move to Italy and wants regular European football, an ambition Palace have struggled to satisfy after missing out on continental qualification.

For now, no formal bids have been reported. With three clubs circling and a modest asking price, however, Mateta’s future looks likely to be resolved before the window closes.
