What Jude Bellingham said to Cristian Romero as World Cup row erupts during Madrid derby

Jude Bellingham and Cristian Romero renewed England vs Argentina hostilities in a bad-tempered Madrid derby with the brutal digs shared between the two now revealed.

Atletico Madrid beat neighbours Real in a lively showdown on Sunday where Jose Mourinho accused officials of making huge errors in the 2-1 defeat.

There were battles across the pitch with Bellingham and Romero clashing in their first meeting since Argentina beat England in a wild World Cup semi-final in the summer.

The two were seen exchanging words at various stages of the match with Movistar’s El Día Después picking up exactly what was said.

‘When you’re with [Lionel] Messi, you talk a lot. But here, nothing,’ Bellingham said to Romero, who left Tottenham to join Atletico in the summer transfer window.

Bellingham also called the Argentine a ‘coward.’

Romero responded by calling Bellingham a ‘cry baby’, telling him ‘you cried over there [at the World Cup]’, referring to Argentina’s 2-1 win over their old rivals.

Earlier in the game, Bellingham was on the receiving end of a nasty challenge from Romero which saw the former Spurs star shown a yellow card despite a VAR review.

Real also felt Kang-in Lee escaped a sending off for his ankle-high challenge on Fede Valverde with a red card shown to Dean Huijsen heightening their feeling of injustice.

Bellingham was furious at full-time, leading the protests against referee Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias by repeatedly shouting ‘two red cards, two!’ at the official.

Bellingham, England’s best player in the summer, was among the Three Lions stars in tears after Thomas Tuchel’s side crashed out of the competition in July having led the contest with 35 minutes left on the clock.
