Wilshere's management return confirmed as Arsenal legend appointed Luton BOSS

JACK WILSHERE has been announced as the new manager of Luton.

The Arsenal icon replaces Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed last week.

Upon his arrival, the 33-year-old said: "It’s a huge honour and a privilege to be named Luton Town manager.

"It feels like a full-circle moment for me. I was eight when I first came to Luton as a boy, so I guess you could say it’s fate that my first full-time club managerial position is at this club.

"I couldn’t be more delighted to be here – I can’t wait to manage this football club."

He added: "This Club’s story inspires me. Built on belief, unity, and hard work.

"The Club have shown incredible character on and off the pitch in recent times, and I’m honoured to lead to take the responsibility to lead this group into the future.

"There’s so much of the season still to play for and I’m excited about getting to work and putting my own stamp on things, and moving this club forward in a positive direction.

"I want to give the Luton fans a team they can be proud of, and the work to do that starts today."

Wilshere started his career at Luton during his primary school years.

He was part of the Centre of Excellence before joining Arsenal at the age of nine.

The midfielder went on to spend 17 years with the Gunners and made 197 first team appearances.

He then joined West Ham and spent two seasons in east London before moving to Bournemouth for six months.

Wilshere concluded his playing career - which was plagued with injuries - after a four-month stay with AGF in Denmark.

After hanging up his boots, he turned to coaching and moved back to Arsenal to lead the U18s.

He left to join Norwich in his first senior job last October and was named interim manager six months later following the dismissal of Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Wilshere missed out on the job full-time and was rejected by Plymouth Argyle in the summer.

But the former England star has now landed his first job in senior football management with Luton.

His assistant will be former England left-back Chris Powell, who also made 274 Premier League appearances.
