Roy Keane says Manchester United’s struggles are being exacerbated by a dip in form from goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Lammens was widely praised for his encouraging first season at Old Trafford following an £18m move from Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2025.

The Belgium international was expected to compete with former Manchester United No. 1 Andre Onana but almost instantly displaced the Cameroonian in-between the sticks.

Lammens’ solid first season in the Premier League helped United qualify for the Champions League and even resulted in praise from club legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 24-year-old is finding life trickier this season, however, with United conceding 13 goals in eight Premier League games, the seventh-most in the division.

Lammens conceded six goals in Manchester United’s last two Champions League games and a further three at the weekend in a shocking home defeat to Bournemouth.

United’s dismal form could yet cost Michael Carrick his job at Old Trafford but Keane believes a number of players must also take responsibility, including goalkeeper Lammens.

Speaking on The Overlap, Keane said: ‘Going back to Manchester United, the goalkeeper is costing them, isn’t he? He was very good last year.’

Keane is not the only United great to question Lammens, with Paul Scholessaying last month that the ‘jury was still out’ on the shot-stopper.

‘What team have you seen win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper?’ Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.

‘Lammens might be that, I don’t know, I think the jury’s probably still out on that. You need a top class goalkeeper.

‘You think of Liverpool’s team with Alisson, City’s teams, Raya at Arsenal. Man United with Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

‘They’ve all got brilliant, brilliant goalkeepers. You start from the back, of course you do.’

Lammens addressed concerns over his form during the recent international break, insisting he had to be ‘mentally strong’ playing for a club the size of Manchester United.
