Without Ballon d’Or winner Kane! Here’s Bayern’s starting lineup against Magdeburg

FC Bayern will face 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening. The record champions are, of course, the favorites heading into the home game against the second-division side.

However, FCB still has personnel concerns. Players such as Jamal Musiala, Luis Diaz, and Joshua Kimmich remain sidelined. Coach Vincent Kompany is also still unable to participate in the match. The Belgian will be out of action for several more weeks.

That said, there was some positive news earlier in the day: Aleksandar Pavlović is back in the squad, which at least provides a few more options for lining up the team.

Here’s how Bayern will line up against Magdeburg

Ahead of the match against Magdeburg, there were still a few question marks. Although no new injuries were announced at the pre-match press conference, the physical strain on all players remains high at the moment. In addition, players like Harry Kane and Michael Olise traveled to London during the week for the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

As a result, it was unclear which players were truly 100% fit for this match. Because even though Bayern has a deeper roster and is the clear favorite, one thing is certain: Magdeburg will push itself to its physical limits and challenge FC Bayern’s core strengths.

Bayern’s lineup has since been announced, and it’s clear which players Aaron Danks—who is replacing head coach Kompany—has selected. Jonas Urbig is once again in goal, with Jonathan Tah and Hiroki Ito playing in the center of the defense and Josip Stanisic and Nathaniel Brown on the wings.

Konrad Laimer and Tom Bischof will once again start in central midfield. Lennart Karl will start from the beginning, just as he did against Freiburg. Harry Kane is not in the starting lineup; Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry are expected to alternate in the center of the attack.
