A RIGHT CARRI ON - Man Utd stars give boss Carrick food for thought in PSG draw as major summer transfer dilemma grows

Talk of Marcus Rashford's possible return to the Manchester United fold has dominated the summer, but some of his team-mates showed that he's a way to go before he can start thinking of playing in red once more.

Rashford is back at Old Trafford following the end of his Barcelona loan and, with Ruben Amorim now gone, Michael Carrick could offer him fresh hope. Two of the immediate problems to Rashford's starting XI ambitions are Bryan Mbeumo and Amad.

Mbeumo was on target in their draw with PSG and was a constant menace for the Red Devils. On one of the flanks was Amad, who dovetailed impressively with the Cameroonian.

United responded well to an early onslaught, that saw PSG teenager Ibrahim Mbaye open the scoring inside two minutes at the back post. Mbeumo had the Premier League side level before half-time as he finished neatly after Amad had set him away.

Patrick Dorgu was another element of the United attack. Signed by Amorim as a wing-back, the return to a more conventional formation may have left him wondering where his future lied in the team. Carrick is understood to prefer him in a more advanced role, giving Rashford yet more competition.

Dorgu also has the added luxury of having a body of work under Carrick, which the United boss will no doubt factor in to his selection decisions. Rashford was afforded an extended break having been involved with England at the World Cup, but that may well have him on the back foot.

This was a United XI that left Bruno Fernandes on the bench initially, has Benjamin Sesko still recovering from injury and Matheus Cunha still to come back into the picture.

Youngster Shea Lacey moved out to the left once Fernandes came on to occupy his usual role as the team's playmaker, meaning the teenager is another player Carrick wants to look at in one of the wide roles. This United depth is starting to look more and more impressive, even if Rashford's task is being made all the more challenging.

The Englishman is still United's top earner and, if he is going to play a squad role, then the club may have to look at moving him on. His salary will make that a challenge, but the club can ill-afford to pay someone who pops off the bench more than £300,000-a-week.

This was a game that showed United, who still have questions to answer given the impact of the well renowned 'new manager bounce', can at least mix it in the pre-season environment with PSG.

The French champions were certainly showcasing their depth and sone of the next generation. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Willian Pacho were the only two men to start in the Champions League final that began from the off in Sweden.

It means it was not the type of Parisian test that Arsenal faced when they tried to beat them to win the European Cup, but it was still a well coached side that began flexing their muscles on the hour mark. Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves all came on once the hour mark hit.

United sent on summer signing Youri Tielemans in the second-half and the Belgian quickly set about trying to conduct proceedings. He found Fernandes with a neat ball, but his effort in the final ten minutes went wide.

It was actually United who had the better of the final stages, but they were unable to find the winner that would've landed them a morale-boosting scalp, even if this was a PSG side not a full strength.
