Alan Brazil announces return to radio after his heart stopped beating on the operating table during life-saving liver transplant

Alan Brazil has revealed he will return to the radio on Wednesday just a few months after having a life-saving liver transplant.

The talkSPORT stalwart has been off-air for almost four months but will now return to present his regular Breakfast Show slot alongside former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor.

Brazil, 67, shared in June that he had undergone life-saving surgery and disclosed that he was on the operating table for eight hours, admitting his heart had stopped before restarting itself.

Now ready to return to radio, Brazil cut a relaxed figure as he delivered a video update on social media on Monday.

'Hugo, say hello,' the Scot said while petting his dog in the video.

'I'm looking forward to Wednesday. Wednesday at 6am - talkSPORT, Brazil's back. Looking forward to it.

'I've had a great break here in Suffolk, the weather's been sensational although I'm not allowed to be in the sun too much. But it's been great.

'The World Cup - not so great for me. I didn't like all the commercialisation and of course we're hearing all about it now, aren't we?'

At this point in the video, his dog Hugo then leaps off the sofa, prompting Brazil to say: 'There you go, I'm just about to talk about Gabby (Agbonlahor) and Hugo's p***ed off.

'Wednesday morning, it looks like Gabby and me just after six o'clock, all being well I'll be back on. I'm going to have Thursday off because I've got a couple of treatments I've got to do, and then Friday I'll be back at six as well.

'Hopefully it'll be Ray Parlour - Party Parlour - I spoke to him yesterday and he was enjoying himself as normal. Some Sunday lunch in Essex, some swanky restaurant having a great time.

'I've missed all this guys over the last three months, I really have. And I've had a great break. I feel my voice and everything is beginning to improve week after week. I'm still not there yet, nowhere near - it'll take another three, four, maybe six months but I'm definitely a lot better.

'I can't wait, I've taken some season tickets to Ipswich this year, so I'm going to spend a lot of time at Portman Road. Things are great.'

Brazil went on to deliver his thoughts ahead of the new Premier League season, branding Arsenal as the 'team to beat' and tipping Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham to have strong campaigns.

He also revealed that Ally McCoist, who regularly joins Brazil on talkSPORT, is enjoying a 'much-deserved' break after working as a pundit throughout the World Cup.

Brazil finished the video saying: 'Anyway, it's great to be back, I feel good. I'm looking forward to Wednesday morning, just after six o'clock with Gabby Agbonlahor on talkSPORT. We'll get it going again!'

Brazil has presented the Breakfast show since the radio station launched in 2000, cutting back his hours in 2020.

In March, he was forced to miss his presenting duties for talkSPORT during the final two days at Cheltenham Festival. Brazil previously had a spell off air in January due to illness too.

The former striker started his football career at Ipswich Town in 1976 and later had spells at Tottenham and Man United in the 1980s.

He won 13 caps for Scotland - representing them at the 1982 World Cup in Spain - but struggled with back issues towards the end of his career.
