Xabi Alonso it not naturally one to give a lot away in his press conferences, and journalists are having to make good use of the embargoed section of the pressers to get any details at all out of the new Chelsea boss.
On Marco Palestra’s ongoing injury, so far all we’ve really heard from Alonso is “he’s out, he’ll be back soon.”
Finally, yesterday we got some more detail on what the problem is and when he will be back.

“The injury is something on the quad. He’s almost in the last stages of the recovery, so we will see. If not [fit for] Brentford, then Bournemouth for sure,” Alonso said of his summer signing.
“He’s quite frustrated after a very good pre-season not to be able to play and to make his debut in the Premier League. But I told Marco, “Easy, the season is long, there will be a lot of games, and you will play your role, you will have your minutes, you will enjoy your game.”
“He is full of energy, and you need to control that.”
After a strong preseason, we can only imagine how itching the Italian is to get going.1
