A consortium led by Amanda Staveley has held talks about buying a stake in West Ham.

Last September, it emerged that Staveley, who helped lead the Saudi Public Investment Fund's takeover of Newcastle in October 2021, was reportedly interested in making a bid to buy Tottenham.

The 53-year-old left Newcastle in July 2024 alongside her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, but they have been linked with a return to English football, and even admitted seven months ago she has 'looked at Tottenham'.

But now, according to Sky News, it appears that Staveley has decided to pursue her interest in another London club in West Ham, who were relegated down to the Championship at the end of last season.

It's added that Staveley, who had a 10 per cent stake in Newcastle before her departure in July 2024, is plotting to acquire part or all of the 25.1 per cent stake in the Hammers owned by the Gold family.

She has held talks with West Ham but discussions has been complicated by pre-emption rights which command that the Hammers' existing investors have first refusal on any shares which switch hands.

A source told Sky that the situation at West Ham was "extremely fluid" and might not see Staveley becoming a shareholder in the club ahead of their first second-tier campaign for 15 years.

In June, Vanessa Gold and Daniel Kretinsky, who has a 27 per cent stake in West Ham, issued a statement to confirm they had struck an agreement for the Czech tycoon to buy 16 per cent of the club from her.

"We have reached agreement on the key terms of a share purchase transaction between the Gold family and 1890 Holdings, which, subject to other shareholders' pre-emption rights and necessary approvals, would make 1890 Holdings (part of the broader group EP) the largest shareholder in West Ham with an approximately 43% stake," they said. "As the largest shareholder, group EP will be able to provide the additional financing the Club needs."

Staveley has been linked with launching a bid to buy West Ham on several occasions across the last 12 months.

When asked earlier this year about whether she was interested in the Hammers, she said: "Maybe, you don't know. We've looked at a lot of clubs, including Tottenham, but we are looking at clubs around the Premier League and the UK, Europe. We really want to be buying, going in and investing into a club again very soon."

As well as her previous involvement at Newcastle, Staveley is also a director of PCP Capital Partners and acted for Sheikh Mansour when he bought Manchester City in 2008.
