Andre Onana is heading back to
Trabzonspor
on loan, with a deal now agreed.
Fabrizio Romano reports the move has been signed, ending any prospect of the goalkeeper returning to the
Manchester United
squad.
It marks a second successive season away from Old Trafford for the Cameroon international. The terms fall largely in United’s favour.
Trabzonspor will pay a loan fee of up to £1.3m, and cover the bulk of Onana’s sizeable wages. Crucially for the Turkish side, there is no option or obligation to buy attached.
Onana’s exit reflects a fall from grace. He arrived from Inter Milan for £47.2m in 2023, but a string of costly errors undermined his second season at the club.
United signed Senne Lammens last summer, and the Belgian quickly established himself as first choice.

That signing left Onana surplus to requirements. He spent last season on loan in Turkey, where he made 29 Super Lig appearances and kept six clean sheets.
He also helped
win the Turkish Cup, adding to a well-stocked personal trophy cabinet.
Reports had suggested Onana hoped to return and challenge Lammens for the gloves.
United, though, saw no reason to reopen that door, with Lammens named the Premier League’s signing of the season.
The move also serves United’s wider plans. Clearing Onana’s wages and banking a loan fee frees up resources for Michael Carrick’s rebuild.
The club are pursuing at least two midfielders, a left-back and a winger this summer.
Onana remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028. He will return next summer, however, with just one year then left on his deal and his long-term future far from certain.
