Argentina 'submit special request' to FIFA for World Cup semi-final clash with England

Argentina have reportedly made a request to FIFA about the kit they will wear during their World Cup semi-final with England. The Three Lions booked their place in the last four of the tournament thanks to a victory over

Argentina claimed a 3-1 win over

Switzerland

to secure their place in the World Cup semi-final, and have now apparently made a request to FIFA about their match with England.

Journalist Gaston Edul

has claimed that Argentina have submitted a request to FIFA that they wear their all-blue kit as opposed to their blue and white strip.

Argentina have worn their traditional blue and white striped kit all but one of their six World Cup matches so far, with the only exception being their group stage victory over

Jordan

on June 28.

On this occasion, Lionel Scaloni’s team wore the blue kit that Argentina are reported to have requested to FIFA to wear for their match against England.

Messi has played a key role in helping Argentina reach the semi-final of the World Cup, as they look to defend the crown they won in the previous instalment of the tournament back in

Qatar

in 2022.

The Inter Miami star, after helping Argentina beat Switzerland, reflected on the opportunity to face England in the semi-final for the first time in his career.

Messi also spoke about the history between the two nations, particularly the 1986 World Cup quarter-final.

"Everything I have seen and remember [about Argentina vs. England from 1986] is from videos and images that Argentinians constantly watch and relive," Messi said in an interview with

ESPN Argentina

. "But I think this group is used to playing football matches regardless of the opponent.

"Obviously, playing against England is special because they are a powerhouse, and matches against powerhouses are always special.
