Argentine Premier League stars 'employ private security' after heated England win

Lisandro Martinez and Alexis Mac Allister decided to bolster their home security in the aftermath of Argentina’s dramatic World Cup win against England. The South American nation reached the final earlier this month with a late, turnaround victory against the Three Lions.

Anthony Gordon had given Thomas Tuchel ’s men the lead, only for goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez to turn the game on its head. Argentina players were criticised in the aftermath for celebrating with a banner declaring that the Falkland Islands were Argentinian , while their physical approach to the game was also a sticking point.

And it appears that some of the players currently playing in the Premier League stepped up their security at their houses in the face of potential backlash. According to The Sun , both Mac Allister and Martinez employed private security firms to patrol their houses shortly after Argentina’s win.

Those teams were present for two days following the game, albeit no attempts were made to vandalise either of the players’ properties. Manchester United are not thought to have had any involvement in Martinez’s arrangement for more security.

Argentina eventually lost the World Cup final against Spain - Ferran Torres’ extra-time strike securing victory for the European side.

Speaking after the World Cup final, Liverpool midfielder Mac Allister slammed rival fans for their responses. He said: "I have mixed feelings. It makes me a little angry because they have no basis for generating that hatred.

“They say we're arrogant but maybe it says more about the people who say those things than about us. We have always been respectful to our opponents."

Taking to social media, he added: "Let's cry, because we're Argentinians and we always want to win. But after crying, let's get up, unite, and keep going, because this isn't over. And these past few days, my mum reminded me of a popular saying: 'If there's a rematch, don't be afraid.'

"Finally, my eternal gratitude to our families, friends, those who do the silent work for this national team, and everyone who supports us throughout the year, in good times and bad. You are a huge part of who we are.

"Thank you to all Argentinians for every message of love and support. You don't know how important you are on this journey. And thank you also to those from other countries who send us messages mocking or rejoicing in our pain.

"Without meaning to, you help us feel more and more proud to be Argentinian every day. THANK YOU ARGENTINA!"
