Arsenal made a brief check on Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo a few days ago

Arsenal reportedly made a brief check on Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo a few days ago.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants to bolster his attacking ranks at the Emirates Stadium club with Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus on their way out.
Arsenal are now weighing up a move to bring Lyon winger Malick Fofana to the North London club, but Gakpo was also looked at.
The agent of Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye also reached out to the Gunners, but the Senegalese is now expected to join Manchester City.
Gakpo has been linked with Man City and Tottenham, but he is open to remaining with Liverpool should they fail to sign a replacement.
The Netherlands international has made 182 appearances for the Reds and he brings much-needed experience to the table.
Gakpo has started the new season with one goal and one assist in two Premier League appearances, and Arsenal could do with such a player.
However, it does not appear that the Gunners will be making a concrete move for the 27-year-old this summer.
They will be focusing on Fofana and will hope to get a deal for him over the line before tomorrow’s deadline.
The 21-year-old Belgian attacker will be keen on joining such a club, and an agreement could be on the cards in the coming hours.
Arsenal need quality depth in the attack to boost their chances of winning major trophies this term, and signing Fofana could come in handy.
