Arsenal's summer business has been completely overshadowed after it emerged they are exploring an audacious bid to sign Vinicius Jr from Real Madrid. The Gunners' interest in the Brazil international, who has one year remaining on his contract, is genuine.

It is believed that a move for Vinicius – who scored 22 times for Real last season and netted four goals at the World Cup – is in its very formative stages as Mikel Arteta looks to land a marquee signing to build on the club's first Premier League title in more than two decades.

The 26-year-old fits that bill, with Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez, RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain also on their radar.

Arsenal have already bolstered their attacking options with the £34million signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge but landing Vinicius would blow their other dealings out of the water. Here's a round-up of the latest Gunners transfer news…

Amid the excitement among Arsenal fans, it has emerged that Vinicius is still leaning towards staying with Real Madrid, despite his contract impasse with the club.

Vinicius has just a year remaining on his current deal and Los Blancos are desperate to avoid losing him for nothing next summer. According to Spanish media, he is asking for an increase that would take his wages to around £17m net per year.

According to AS, talks between player and club will resume in days once he returns from his post-World Cup break. Vinicius and his team want clarity on two key issues: where he fits into returning boss Jose Mourinho's plans and whether he can secure a salary that reflects his global status in the game.

Mourinho, who has signed a three-year deal at the Bernabeu, was criticised for comments he made after Vinicius accused Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni of racially abusing him during a Champions League tie in February.

But Mourinho, who was Benfica's manager at the time, reportedly wants Vinicius and the club's other top stars to stay. AS says the intention of both sides is to agree a new deal, despite the Gunners' interest.

Barcola has told PSG he will not be signing a new contract amid Arsenal's interest in the France World Cup star.

Barcola has been key to PSG's success in recent seasons but could fall down the pecking order as Luis Enrique looks to revamp his forward line, which could see them sign the in-demand Diomande.

Whether PSG win the race to sign Diomande or not, it appears Barcola wants out, having told the club he has no intention of extending his contract. The 23-year-old's deal with the European champions has two years left to run.
