The summer transfer window is bubbling for Arsenal as talk of a gargantuan signing continues to build. Mikel Arteta 's first Premier League title is expected to usher in a massive nine-figure arrival, though the identity of that star remains unknown for now.

Negotiations over such a deal will be more straightforward once World Cup 2026 concludes. As it is, however, numerous of those being linked with moves to the Emirates are still in action in North America.

That will all be said and done after this weekend, however, which should cue a spike in activity for the Gunners. Mirror Football breaks down the latest rumours around Arsenal this week as fans hold their breath in anticipation of some major moves.

One name who may not be arriving at the Emirates this summer is Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes. Arteta's side are alleged to have already seen a bid for the Brazilian rejected this summer and were surprised to learn just how much the midfielder could cost.

The Telegraph reported Arsenal are reassessing their strategy after initially being led to believe Guimaraes would only cost £50million. The Premier League champions were told by intermediaries in contact with ex-co-owner Amanda Staveley that there was a deal to be done for the Magpies skipper but negotiations haven't been as simple as they hoped.

Arteta remains a fan of the Brazil playmaker and wants to add him to his squad. Guimaraes, 28, has another two years left on his contract with the option of an extra year, meaning Newcastle aren't in any immediate need to consider a sale.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.

It's reported Arsenal's best offer for Guimaraes to date was worth around £60m. However, Newcastle want significantly more and want the figure to be paid up front, without the need for add-on clauses.

Following Sandro Tonali's £100m move to Tottenham earlier this summer, it's suggested the Magpies want a similar sum for their captain. And that could prove much too rich for Arsenal's taste after being led to believe a deal for half that figure may have once been plausible.

More positive news for Arsenal are reports suggesting Atletico Madrid want to send Julian Alvarez anywhere other than Barcelona . And that eagerness to cut a deal with non-Catalan parties could tip the scale in favour of the Gunners.

Arsenal have reportedly switched their attention to the Argentina forward after becoming disillusioned in their pursuit of PSG's Bradley Barcola. Alvarez, 26, has made it clear he wants to leave Atletico this summer but is said to have his eyes set on a move to the Camp Nou.

The only issue with that is Atleti are purportedly adamant they will not sell to a direct rival, least of all the current champions of La Liga . And Fabrizio Romano has hinted that could create an opening for Arsenal, though his supposed £130m price-tag could still prove problematic.

What's more, TEAMtalk claim Atletico have told Alvarez's camp they're prepared to sanction a move to north London. Barcelona remain his preferred destination, but that wish looks unlikely to be granted.
