Barcelona approve Ferran Torres training absence as PSG move nears completion

Barcelona are preparing themselves for a very busy end to the summer transfer window, both in terms of signings and exits. They are close to bringing Rodri to the Spotify Camp Nou, but before that happens, it’s expected that Ferran Torres will depart.

Going into the summer, there was concerns about Torres’ situation due to him having only one year left on his contract. Nevertheless, Barcelona were comfortable, and they did plan on offering him a new contract once the 2026-27 season had started, but things have taken a drastic turn over the last few weeks.

Torres has already agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, and given that he’s out of contract next June, Barcelona are resigned to cashing in now. The two clubs are already in talks, and with an agreement close to being reached, the decision has been made for the 2026 World Cup hero not to return to Catalonia on Wednesday for the start of his pre-season schedule, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Torres deal should be finalised later this week

Barcelona are ready to accept a deal worth €55m for Torres, which would represent good value given his contract situation. The plan is for PSG to finalise the agreement later this week, once their participation in the 2026 Super Cup, which takes place against Aston Villa on Wednesday, has come to an end.

It makes sense for Torres not to train while his move to PSG is in its final stages. Barcelona have already been rocked by the news that Roony Bardghji is facing months out after tearing his ACL earlier this week, and the Catalans are keen to avoid a similar situation taking place with their number 7.

Torres’ imminent exit does mean that Barcelona will be left without a recognised striker in Hansi Flick’s squad, and while they continue to dream of signing Julian Alvarez, they must make moves to ensure that they have a number nine in the door for the start of the 2026-27 La Liga season next weekend.
