Barcelona still exploring move to re-sign Marcus Rashford
Barcelona are about to finalise their fourth and fifth signings of the summer transfer window, although they will not be done there. Joao Cancelo and Rodri will join Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Jesse Bisiwu in Hansi Flick’s squad, but as well as a new striker, there could be a familiar face set to return to the Spotify Camp Nou.
Earlier in the summer, Barcelona were very interested in signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis following his impressive loan spell during the 2025-26 season. They made at least one offer to Manchester United, but ultimately, a deal could not be agreed, meaning that he returned to Old Trafford, where he still remains.
The additions of Gordon and Adeyemi had appeared to all-but end Rashford’s hopes of returning to Barcelona, but it appears that they are not completely dead yet. According to TEAMtalk, talks are still ongoing with the England international’s representatives with a view to finding a solution that could see him re-join Flick’s side.
For the moment, Rashford has been re-integrated at Man United, and there are many chances for him to be part of their squad for the 2026-27 Premier League season. However, an exit is equally as likely, and Barcelona are one of the clubs considering a late summer move.
Rashford could emerge as Alvarez alternative
According to the report, Rashford could end up being a striker alternative for Barcelona, should they fail in their bid to sign Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid are continuing to block any move from Catalonia for the Argentine striker, and if this continues to be the case, alternatives must be sought – one of which could be Rashford.
In this scenario, Gordon could be moved into a central striker role, which would open the door for Rashford to return as a backup option to Raphinha on the left. However, any move is in its infancy at this stage, although it would progress in the coming weeks.
