Bayern Munich give Musiala health update after star collapses twice in pre-season

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jamal Musiala is responding well and is back in training, after collapsing in two consecutive matches in pre-season. The 23-year-old caused concerns as he fell to the ground during the Bavarians' clash with RB Leipzig on Saturday, August 15.

Just three days later, the German international collapsed again shortly after making his way onto the pitch as a second-half substitute against Heidenheim away from home. Players made a circle around Musiala as he received treatment from medical assistants, before he was helped while walking off the pitch.

In the aftermath, Musiala revealed that he had been receiving treatment for "absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction," adding that it was "temporary and easily treatable." He wrote on Instagram : "First things first – I’m doing well. I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support.

"I understand that many of you are worried. Today, I’d like to put your minds at ease and explain the situation a little: I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.

"These can lead to the episodes that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim. I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life.

"I am receiving the best possible medical treatment for this and I am very optimistic. FC Bayern and the people close to me are always by my side and supporting me on this journey. The important thing is that there is no further health risk beyond this.

"In close consultation and regular communication with the specialists, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the approval of the neurological specialists, to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football.

Now, Bayern's head coach, Vincent Kompany, has confirmed that Musiala is responding well to treatment and that he will be reintegrated into the first-team when fit. He explained: "He’s getting used to the increase in medication and he’s responding well to it.

"He’ll be back in the squad at some point and he’ll play normally again. But of course we’ll make that decision hand in hand with all the experts (doctors) and everyone else. But he’s fine."

It comes as Bayern Munich are set to kickstart their Bundesliga campaign at home against VfB Stuttgart on Friday evening. Musiala has been ruled out of participation as he continues to recover.
