Carrick shares ‘real positive’ injury update as ‘sharp’ star could be back for Ipswich

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick issued an update on Mason Mount, who might be available this weekend.
The Red Devils began their campaign on a torrid note last weekend, suffering a humbling 0-2 defeat in Hull.
This Sunday, Man Utd will once again face a newly promoted side in the form of Ipswich Town. But this time, the action will take place at Old Trafford.

During his pre-match press conference, Carrick confirmed that Amad Diallo could be out for a while. Moreover, Carlos Baleba has yet to fully recover from the injury he sustained earlier in the summer.
On the other hand, the manager provided a more positive update on Mount, who hurt himself during the friendly against Paris Saint-Germain on August 8.
“Mase is back around the group. He trained this week, so a real positive,” said the 45-year-old (via the Manchester Evening News).
While Carrick didn’t confirm Mount’s availability, his words suggest the midfielder has a genuine chance of earning a call-up on Sunday afternoon.
Perhaps he won’t be fit enough for a starting role, but the 27-year-old could start the match in the dugout and then get involved in the second half, if his services are required.
Why Mount’s return is an important boost for Man Utd
In the first three pre-season friendlies of the summer, Mount was one of the Man Utd standout performers, especially in the win over Atletico Madrid, when he was praised for his ‘sharp’ display.
The former Chelsea star is originally an attacking midfielder, but he played in a deeper role alongside Andrey Santos in pre-season, with the two forming a swift understanding.
At one point, it was suggested that instead of buying a third midfielder, Man Utd could instead rely on Mount, at least before he got injured.
With Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo now in the picture, Carrick has more options for the double-pivot roles, but the Belgian and Santos had a club debut to forget in Hull.
Therefore, if the new signings continue to struggle, Carrick could be tempted to drop them and give Mount another run in the starting lineup.
