Tottenham legend Les Ferdinand reckons his former club will become a Premier League powerhouse again – and it will be thanks to rivals Chelsea.

The club splashed out nearly £400million in the summer window including nabbing Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo from their bitter London rivals on deadline day.

Ferdinand, who played over 100 games for the London giants, said:” Those are two great signings, and from a bitter rival. Both players have a lot to prove, show their class, just how good they really are. They can kickstart the club’s season and their own careers”.

The former Spurs striker, speaking on behalf of the Hand of Hope charity auction supporting youth art, went on: "There's an impatience with Spurs fans for them to start really well. But everyone needs to stay calm. The club have lashed out unheard of sums on new players and it will take time for them to bed in. Success in The Premier League isn’t instant like a pot noodle, it takes time."

Tottenham fans were plunged into more misery after they slumped to defeat in their opening two league games of the season. After last season's great escape, their woeful start has led to fresh fears among their long-suffering fans dreading another relegation battle.

Mudryk lost almost two years of his career after a doping ban and joins on loan with a £75 million buy-out option with defender Adarabioyo snapped up for a bargain £7million.

"Mykhailo Mudryk comes with a big reputation. I know Roberto De Zerbi has worked with him before at Shakhtar Donetsk and at one stage he had very high praise for him,” said Les.

"He said he felt he could be a Ballon d'Or winner, which is some praise coming from someone like De Zerbi. Hopefully they can get him back on track, especially after he has lost almost two years of football . He will be raring to get back on track. My only concern is that sometimes when you've been out of football for that long, it takes time for you to get back into it.

"When you spend the sort of money that Tottenham spent in the transfer window people expect instant success, quick results. Especially when results have been catastrophic in the last couple fighting relegation last season. So there's an impatience with Spurs fans for them to start really well. Unfortunately, they have not done that, but I believe the right manager's in place.

"When you bring that amount of players into the club it's always going to take time for them all to gel and for the manager to work out his best 11, get them all out on the pitch.

"On the plus side, they have experience there with the likes of Andy Robertson who will make a huge difference off the pitch and in the dressingroom. He is a proven winner, huge value for the kind of person and player he is. I like the mixture of seasoned pros along with the new blood, that is what the club needs."
