Chelsea's two players on eight-year contracts - with one yet to make debut

Chelsea have extended one of their marquee players until 2034 but he isn't the only member of Xabi Alonso's squad on an eight-year deal

Chelsea have tied down Joao Pedro for eight years after he signed a contract extension until 2034. Yet the Brazilian isn't the only player bound to Stamford Bridge for that amount of time as things stand.

Despite transfer rumours swirling about a potential exit as the window opened, Xabi Alonso's side have ensured Pedro will stay put for the foreseeable future. The 24-year-old scored 20 goals last season and was named the club's Player of the Year.

For his exploits, he's taken on the No. 9 shirt and put pen to paper on new terms that last a whopping eight years. Now, Chelsea's affinity for a lengthy contract is no secret, but there is only one other star who can boast such an agreement: young Geovany Quenda, who is yet to even feature for the Blues competitively.

Quenda was born in Guinea-Bissau but moved to Portugal at a young age, where he started his youth development with CF Damaiense in Amadora in 2016.

His talent was there for all to see and one of Portugal's giants came calling. Benfica snapped him up and the wide player called their academy home for two seasons before switching allegiances to Sporting CP at age 12.

At the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy, he flourished and was already playing for the club's reserves at 16. It was ex-Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim who gave him his senior bow against Porto in the 2024 Supertaca Candido de Oliveira two years ago and he marked the occasion with a goal.

This meant Quenda overtook Ronaldo as Sporting's youngest-ever goalscorer at 17 years and 95 days old. The 2024/25 season under Amorim was the winger's breakout campaign, as he played 54 times, helping his team win the league title whilst being named the Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season.

Records kept tumbling for Quenda. He received his first senior Portugal call-up in August 2024 and became Sporting's youngest Champions League goalscorer last season. Inevitably, Europe's biggest clubs had caught his scent. In March 2025, Chelsea struck a £40million agreement for the teenager and in July, he penned a staggering eight-year contract running through June 30, 2034.

With Alonso now at the helm, Quenda fits the manager's high-intensity system, offering flexibility as a wide attacker or high-pressing wing-back with elite dribbling and cross delivery. He made his first appearance for Chelsea in a 3-0 pre-season win against AC Milan and looked lively.

A start against Johor Darul Ta'zim followed and on the right flank, Quenda was again energetic with his pressing as a wing-back. This match ended 3-3 and he also came on in the 76th minute for the Blues' final game against Real Sociedad.

Now, he joins Pedro in the matchday squad for Chelsea's Premier League opener against Fulham, looking to prove he has earned his staggering eight-year deal like his Brazilian team-mate.
