CONTE'S KEEN: Antonio Conte has made it known to Man Utd that he'd be keen to replace Michael Carrick should they sack the underfire boss

Antonio Conte has made it known to Manchester United bosses that he would be keen on the job if they did decide to axe Michael Carrick.
The Premier League season is only six games old but, after their worst start to a season in 40 years, there is major pressure on the Red Devils. Carrick was handed the reigns permanently in the summer after an impressive interim spell, but has found things tougher going this term.
He's presided over just one win in six games and already been dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton, who came back from 2-0 down to win at Old Trafford.
Carrick's CV was flagged as a concern by some onlookers, but United chose to give him the job regardless, and he's now feeling the heat. Conte is a man out of a job having left Napoli in the summer.
The Italian, whilst enduring relatively brief stints in his previous jobs, is a known winner and has delivered league titles at Napoli, Inter Milan and Chelsea over the past decade.

TalkSport understands his representatives have made it clear to those calling the shots in Manchester that he would be open to the role if they did part with their current boss.
Conte left Napoli in the summer after two years, finishing second to Inter Milan last term after winning the Scudetto in his debut season. His success with Chelsea is well documented, winning the title in his first season before claiming the FA Cup the following year, beating Manchester United in the final.
The Italian, who also had a brief period in charge at Tottenham, made it known recently that in his next job he wanted to restore a fallen giant - a category that United would fall into. They are without a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013 and have failed to challenge in the 13 years since.

They are no longer even Champions League regulars but Conte spoke about a desire to make a powerhouse name a winning outfit when he spoke about his next challenge.
He recently told the Athletic: "If you go to a club where the history speaks for itself - a history made up of trophies, league titles and victories - you can only honour that history in one way: by having the ambition to bring that club back, if it isn't there today, to fight for those goals.
"There are many clubs that have somewhat lost sight of their history. I'd like to go to one of these clubs to dust off that history and make it shine once more. Clubs where there's pressure, where, ultimately, you know full well that you're not going there just to take part, but to compete."
