Coventry City Swoop For Manchester City Star ‘Has Fallen Through’

Coventry City’s move to sign defender Stephan Mfuni from Manchester City ‘has fallen through’, according to journalist Alex Crook.

Frank Lampard has been moving to make further additions to his Sky Blues squad before the transfer window slams shut at the start of next month.

Both Hull City and Ipswich Town won their opening Premier League games, leaving Coventry as the only of the newly promoted sides who did not.

Lampard knows the need for defensive strength to handle the demands of the Premier League and brought in Aurele Amenda to bolster the backline earlier this summer.

They are also set to snap up experienced centre-back Ethan Pinnock from fellow top flight side Brentford.

Whether the deal for Pinnock has affected Coventry’s thinking on Manchester City talent Mfuni is unclear.

A move to take him from the Etihad was advanced, but now it has fallen through and Mfuni is staying with Enzo Maresca’s men.

Manchester City may need now to explore alternative exit destinations for Mfuni before the transfer window slams shut, if they want him to leave.

Coventry landing Pinnock would mark their second defensive addition of the window, after Amenda, and it remains to be seen if Lampard wants any more defenders in the coming days.

The Sky Blues recently brought in promising attacker Sadiki Cherif from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

In order to get the deal over the line they had to include a substantial 17.5 per cent sell-on clause, meaning the Turkish club could well get more money from Cherif in the future.

Coventry are next in action on Tuesday evening when they visit Home Park to take on Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Cup.

It remains to be seen if Pinnock is in the stands to watch Lampard’s men in action on the south coast.
