Cristiano Ronaldo has blasted Portugal coach Jorge Jesus for breaking his word in an astonishing statement but insisted he will not retire from international duty just yet.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has scored 146 goals in 234 appearances for his country, left the team after remaining on the bench as an unused substitute during a 2-1 Nations League victory away to Norway on 27 September.
Ronaldo, 41, insisted he would ‘reveal the truth’ about the situation with 1,740-word statement released on Tuesday explaining his side of the story.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward explained in his account Jesus, who returned to manage the national team after the summer’s dismal World Cup campaign, had twice gone back on his word.
Ronaldo states he and Jesus had agreed a plan where the veteran would miss the Norway and Denmark matches in order to manage his fitness only to be told on the day of the former he would play 30 minutes.
Ronaldo went onto explain a subsequent meeting with Jesus took place, attended by his club side Al Nassr’s sporting director Simao Coutinho.
In the meeting, an eight-point agreement was drawn up with Jesus to use it to clarify events in his next press conference.

The agreement detailed Ronaldo never demanded playing time, had respected Jesus’ decisions and that the coach asking him to warm up without bringing him on had been a mistake.
