Dominik Szoboszlai explains Liverpool post-match 'spat' and change players will make

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has cleared up any talk of a bust up with Curtis Jones - but admitted that frank discussions should take place in the changing room, rather than on the pitch

The pair were seen clashing following the win over Wrexham in New York last week. The academy graduate was visibly frustrated at full-time and was seen having words with Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas.

The issue reportedly came about after Tsimikas was given given the armband once Szoboszlai came off in second-half and videos of the discussion went viral on social media, forcing the Hungarian to address the situation.

Szoboszlai has played down the magnitude of the incident but maintained he would love to step up into a leadership role following Andy Robertson's exit - leaving the vice captaincy absent.

He said: "It was never a debate between us three. We just discussed something on the pitch. What (which) actually after you guys make it very big.

"But next time we will manage to do it in the changing room. But no, nobody was angry at no one. It's all cleared. We are cool, everybody. No, there hasn't been any conversation [about the vice captaincy]. Obviously we have Virgil as the captain.

"We have Alisson. We have Joe Gomez. So there was no conversation at all. Obviously Ali is not here. Joe is injured. I was very proud moment to have it. And let's see. It's not my choice. It's not fixed. If you get offered the vice-captain in Liverpool FC, you're going to take it. It would be a proud moment for me. But I respect everybody."

Liverpool have maintained that clashes like that are part of an elite environment and Szoboszlai and Jones have since been seen laughing together at an opening training session in Chicago.

Jones has just under a year remaining on his contract at Anfield and Liverpool are naturally trying to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Inter Milan have made repeated attempts to try and sign the versatile Reds star but have now seen three bids turned down.

The Premier League side are sticking to their valuation, which is a minimum of £35million. The Reds were dealt a reality check in the US when they blew a lead to lose 4-2 to Leeds as Andoni Iraola continues his push for more new signings.
