England player ratings vs Czech Republic: Tuchel gets first Nations League win

England secured their first win of the 2026-27 Nations League campaign with a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic in Prague, recovering from Saturday’s defeat by Spain.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Pavel Šulc was sent off for a high challenge on Elliot Anderson, but England still had to be patient before Anthony Gordon finally broke the deadlock two minutes after half-time. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s excellent delivery picked out Gordon, who headed home his third goal in as many England appearances. Harry Kane then made sure of the points in the 69th minute.

James Trafford — 6/10 Made a sharp early save and remained composed in possession, with his distribution allowing England to build from the back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold — 8/10 A hugely encouraging return to the starting XI, capped by a superb cross for Gordon’s opener and several dangerous deliveries from the right.

Trevoh Chalobah — 6/10 Looked uncomfortable during the opening exchanges but grew into the game and helped England preserve a clean sheet once the visitors took control.

Marc Guehi — 6/10 A composed night from the centre-back, who dealt comfortably with the reduced threat after the Czech Republic went down to 10 men.

Lewis Hall — 7/10 One of England’s more adventurous players, combining well with Gordon and repeatedly providing an outlet down the left; he was unfortunate to see an effort end up against the woodwork.

Midfield & Attack

Elliot Anderson — 7/10 Strong and composed in midfield, keeping England’s possession moving and competing well before becoming the victim of Šulc’s sending-off challenge.

Myles Lewis-Skelly — 6/10 Comfortable in England’s build-up during the first half but his early booking made his position more difficult, with Tuchel replacing him at the interval.

Morgan Rogers — 7/10 A lively attacking presence who twice went close, including an effort against the post, while his movement helped stretch a deep Czech defence.

Bukayo Saka — 6/10 Found it difficult to influence the game against a compact defence and never quite established the attacking rhythm England needed on the right.

Anthony Gordon — 8/10 England’s most consistent attacking threat, constantly looking to run beyond the Czech defence before producing the breakthrough with an excellent header.

Harry Kane — 7/10 Not at his most influential in open play but remained dangerous around the box and showed his finishing instinct to score England’s second.

Substitutes

Eberechi Eze — 6/10 Brought greater energy and attacking intent to England’s midfield after replacing Lewis-Skelly at half-time.

Jude Bellingham — 6/10 Returned from the bench to help England manage the closing stages and wore the captain’s armband after Kane’s substitution.

Alex Scott — 6/10 A composed introduction on his senior England debut as Tuchel used the comfortable scoreline to give him valuable minutes.

Rio Ngumoha — 6/10 Immediately looked to attack when he came on, showing the directness that has become a feature of his game.

Morgan Gibbs-White — N/A Had too little time after his late introduction to make a meaningful impact.
