England star Toney charged with assault at London nightclub

Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident at a Soho nightclub in December last year.

The England striker, 30, was charged on July 31 relating to the alleged assault on December 2025 on Wardour Street, London. He is due to appear in court on September 24.

A statement from the Met Police said: "A man has been charged with assault following a Met investigation.

"Ivan Toney, 30 (16.03.1996), of Northampton, was charged on Thursday, 31 July with assault causing actual bodily harm.

"He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 24 September.

"The charge relates to an assault, which reportedly took place on 6 December 2025 at a nightclub on Wardour Street, W1."

A spokesperson for Toney said: "Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court."

Toney was part of England's squad at the recent World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. He helped the Three Lions to a third-placed finish, their best performance since 1966.

His selection came as something of a surprise to many and attracted widespread criticism due to Toney playing his football in Saudi Arabia, despite plundering 42 goals last term.

Toney didn't feature until the semi-final defeat by Argentina, where he came on as a late substitute. But he started the third-place playoff win against France, playing 78 minutes.

Toney began his career with hometown club Northampton before signing for Newcastle in 2015. From there, he went out on loan to Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Wigan.

It was at Peterborough where his goal-scoring form first caught the eye, leading to a move to Brentford in 2020.

He scored 72 goals in 141 appearance for the Bees before his money-spinning Saudi switch, including 36 in the Premier League, leading to a first England call-up in 2022 and a debut in March 2023.

In all, Toney has played 10 times for his country, scoring once in a friendly against Belgium at Wembley in March 2024.
