Karl Darlow has left
Leeds United
for
Manchester United
after rejecting a new deal at Elland Road. Leeds could not offer the 35-year-old a guaranteed starting place due to plans to sign a goalkeeper this summer.
The player said in a post that he was proud to have helped win promotion back to the Premier League and then play a part in survival. His Instagram farewell, set to Olivia Dean’s Ok Love You Bye, also thanked team-mates, staff and supporters.
He plans to watch from afar and wished Leeds well, though the message may land cold with many given the rivalry across the Pennines.
Darlow called joining
a special opportunity and spoke of competing within an excellent goalkeeping group. He expressed enthusiasm about supporting his team-mates and helping to drive standards at the club.
The Wales international departs Leeds with warm words and memories, but with his immediate future at Old Trafford.
