FA Cup first round ties confirmed as League One leaders Bradford and Sheff Weds enter

doc-content image

Sheffield Wednesday will face Oldham Athletic in the first round of the FA Cup whilst ninth tier Tadley Calleva are still dreaming of a fairytale run and could face Barnsley.

They remain the lowest ranked side still in the FA Cup and, subject to a replay against Aldershot, could be 90 minutes away from the second round.

The first round sees the entrance of clubs from Leagues One and Two, which brings in several former winners. Wednesday have lifted the trophy aloft three times whilst Wigan, winners in 2013, and 2021 champions Leicester City are both in the mix.

The Foxes have endured a dire run of form having dropped down to the third tier and they'll face Oxford City when the first round ties are played on the first weekend in November.

Sholing and Plymouth Parkway have made the FA Cup first round for the first time in their history. The latter will play fellow seventh-tier side Berkhamsted, who beat Southend 2-1 to secure their spot, keeping one of their dreams alive.

Eighth-tier AFC Rushden & Diamonds, who were founded in 2011 after the demise of Rushden & Diamonds, take on Burton Albion. Robbie Savage's Peterborough have been drawn against Reading, or have his son Charlie in their ranks.

League One leaders Bradford City are currently the highest ranked team in the Football League involved in the draw and the Yorkshire outfit will play Merseysiders Marine.
