Gabriel Jesus seals permanent Barcelona move to end four-year stay at Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has completed his permanent move from Arsenal to Barcelona on transfer deadline day.

The 29-year-old agreed a three-year contract with the Spanish champions after Arsenal accepted an offer believed to be worth £8.6m.

Jesus registered 32 goals across 123 games for Arsenal after joining from Manchester City for £45m in 2022.

He spent nearly a decade in English football, winning four Premier League titles with City and a fifth with Arsenal last season.

Arsenal said in a statement: "We thank Gabby for his contribution to the club during his four years with us and wish him and his family every happiness and success for the future."

Jesus leaves the club after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres both preferred options in the lone strike role for the Gunners.

He was also hampered by injury problems during his time in north London, and was restricted to only 14 Premier League appearances last term as Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for a league title.

Jesus follows Fabio Vieira out the exit door on deadline day after the creative midfielder also sealed a permanent switch to Bundesliga club Hamburg.

The 26-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan at the German side after becoming surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta.

Vieira joined Arsenal for £34m from Porto in 2022, managing only five Premier League starts alongside a loan spell at his old club.

Vieira told his new club’s official website: "I’m very happy to be back here. I already know the club, the fans and many of my team-mates, so it feels great to be part of it all again."

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal’s summer business is now done as the clock ticks towards Tuesday’s 11pm deadline. The club have brought in Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis, while also making Piero Hincapie’s move from Bayer Leverkusen a permanent one.

Arsenal have also signed goalkeeper Illan Meslier, with the former Leeds shot-stopper acting as David Raya’s understudy. The Gunners have started the season well, lifting the Community Shield and then winning their opening two Premier League games.
