Granit Xhaka given suspended fine for forging Covid vaccination certificate

Switzerland national team captain Granit Xhaka has been given a suspended fine for forging a Covid vaccination certification.
The 34-year-old had already missed the recent extended international break after being given a four-game suspension from the Swiss national team. Now, the player revealed he was also given a suspended fine of 3,000 Swiss francs (approx. £2,700) per day for 50 days that would total 150,000 Swiss francs (approx. £136,200).
"A few weeks ago, I stated that I took responsibility for my decision. I stand by that position," the Sunderland man said.
Xhaka's certificate forgery isn't likely to have any lasting consequence for the player with national team coach Murat Yakin keen to reintegrate him into the team.
The midfielder is likely to be back in action on Saturday when his team his in-form Brighton & Hove Albion.
