GUIMARAES THE GUNNER! Arsenal announce £75m signing of Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes as Mikel Arteta's next two transfers become clear after Vinicius Junior blow

Bruno Guimaraes has been announced as Arsenal's latest signing, penning a five-year deal with the Gunners. The Newcastle captain joins in a £75million deal, with Mikel Arteta now set to go after a new winger and a centre-back.

After several weeks of negotiations, Arsenal agreed a deal with the Magpies earlier this week to secure Guimaraes' signature. Not long after, the 28-year-old left Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain to fly to North London and rubber-stamp the lucrative deal two weeks out from the new Premier League season.

Guimaraes has officially become the Gunners' second most expensive signing of all time, with only Declan Rice's £105m move from West Ham ahead of him. The midfielder will wear his favourite No.39 shirt at the Emirates.

Speaking after completing his move, Guimaraes vowed to be a 'warrior' for Arsenal. "I need a challenge like this," he declared. "I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I'm in the right place to do it."

Guimaraes also revealed that he received a text message from one his new team-mates. He said: "Rice sent me a message, 'Come here and please, no more fights. Now we're friends'. I'm your warrior, I'll never give up."

The Brazil international is Arsenal's fourth confirmed signing this summer, following deals for Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis. Arsenal won't be stopping there, though, with Arteta set to turn his attention to signing the wide forward area and cover at the back for William Saliba.

Vinicius Junior had been their top target, but Arteta and Co. will have to look elsewhere now that the Brazilian has signed a contract extension at Real Madrid. Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola is a known target but also has interest from Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Ezri Konsa is wanted by Arsenal in their search for a defender. The Gunners have already had a £40m bid for the England international rejected by Aston Villa, but they're reportedly preparing a second offer closer to his £60m asking price.

Addressing his departure from St James' Park, Guimaraes said: "This is one of the toughest decisions of my life. When I arrived, the club was in a challenging position and I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together. I fell in love with this place. I really mean that.

"From my first day, the supporters, my team-mates, Eddie (Howe) and the staff, and everyone connected with the club made me and my family feel at home. I thank PIF, our chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Jamie Reuben for everything they have done for me and for this football club.

"I also want to say thank you to David (Hopkinson) and Ross (Wilson) for the huge respect to me throughout this process. They did everything they could to keep me at Newcastle, and I am very grateful for our time together.

"This move is very tough because Newcastle means so much to me, but I wanted to experience something new in my life. I feel ready for a new challenge for myself and my family.

"I had a very positive conversation with Matthias Jaissle, and I leave knowing the club is in very good hands. To the supporters, thank you will never be enough, but I say it with all my heart. I will always be proud to have been part of this club's journey. Thank you for everything."
