Harry Maguire has publicly called on the Manchester United hierarchy to make more signings this summer. The Red Devils have already landed several new squad additions ahead of pre-season, but the centre-back believes there is more work to be done, saying “hopefully more are coming through the door.”

The upcoming 2026/27 season marks Michael Carrick ’s first full campaign in charge of United, having initially come in as interim manager in January following Ruben Amorim ’s sacking, with the former midfielder having done a stellar job in the role so far. His side finished third and qualified for the Champions League, a remarkable feat given how poor they were under Amorim.

That success has given them the platform to build this summer by attracting quality players. Carrick and club bosses were immediately keen to prioritise strenghening United’s weak midfield in the transfer market - something they have managed to do by signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50million and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35m .

They have also added squad depth, with goalkeeper Karl Darlow arriving on a free transfer after the 35-year-old’s contract at Leeds United expired. Winger Tynan Thompson, 18, was also poached from Tottenham.

But veteran defender Maguire, who signed a one-year contract extension at Old Trafford in April, doesn’t want to see United taking their foot off the gas when it comes to transfer incomings. It could well be the 33-year-old’s last season with the club, and he is keen to be part of a squad capable of winning silverware before his exit.

Speaking to Sky Sports last weekend at Royal Birkdale during the Open Championship, Maguire said: “I played with Tielemans for a few months and he’s going to be an incredible signing, I have no doubt about that. He’s Belgium's captain and played most games for Aston Villa last season. He was a big player there.

“Andrey Santos played yesterday [in the pre-season friendly against Wrexham]. He really impressed us in the first week and I think we’ve signed two great players there.”

He went on to add: “Hopefully more are coming through the door,” before saying: “As a player I want a big competitive squad. One that we can go and challenge for the big trophies so the more the merrier.”

It remains to be seen who United will target as their next potential signing. They had been linked with Crysencio Summerville for several weeks, but the West Ham winger is set to join Al-Hilal for £60m.

AC Milan’s Rafael Leao is another name who has repeatedly cropped up, though United are reportedly yet to make an offer for the £43m-rated forward. It appears the club are not advancing for any wingers while they still have Marcus Rashford on their books.
