How Riccardo Calafiori is becoming one of the best full-backs in Europe

Riccardo Calafiori has enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2026/27 campaign and is quickly developing into one of the most impressive full-backs in European football.

The Italian defender has started the season in excellent form for Arsenal, earning the club’s Player of the Month award for August and establishing himself as one of Mikel Arteta’s most trusted players.

His season could hardly have started better. Calafiori scored in the very first minute of the Community Shield against Manchester City, immediately making his mark in one of the biggest fixtures on the English football calendar. Since then, he has continued to produce impressive performances and looks increasingly comfortable as a key part of Arsenal’s side.

For any player at Arsenal, earning the trust of Mikel Arteta is no easy task. The manager demands tactical discipline, technical quality and consistency from his players, particularly in a team competing at the highest level.

Calafiori appears to be ticking all of those boxes.
