Hugh Jackman reveals talks to buy into Championship club to rival Ryan Reynolds

Hugh Jackman could become the latest Hollywood star to buy into a football club after confirming he is in talks to purchase a stake in Norwich City.

The Australian actor, best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, is close friends with Ryan Reynolds, who bought Wrexham alongside Rob McElhenney back in 2021. The duo have overseen three successive promotions, taking Wrexham from non-league to the Championship between 2022 and 2025. The Red Dragons ended last season in seventh place, missing out on the Championship play-offs on the final day.

Reynolds and McElhenney's success at Wrexham has been the catalyst for an influx of celebrity investment among EFL clubs - and Jackman has hinted he could become the latest.

The 57-year-old Canaries fan, whose mother was born in Norwich, confirmed talks to talkSPORT when he was asked about getting involved with an English football club, saying: "I'm very, very interested - and talking about it right now.

He added: "I went to Carrow Road a couple of times, and I love the Canaries, and this is the year we're going to get promoted. That's my prediction. My prediction is Norwich and Wrexham are getting promoted this year."

Jackman, who starred alongside Reynolds in the Hollywood blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, attended a Wrexham match alongside the Canadian A-Lister back in 2023.

His bid to become involved with the Norfolk outfit would likely see he and Reynolds go head to head in the race to win promotion to the Premier League with Norwich expected to be among the teams in the mix.

Jackman previously confirmed he had turned down a chance to invest in Norwich more than a decade ago. Speaking back in 2011, he said: "Sometimes I make big mistakes. I got a letter about a year ago saying, being such a huge Norwich City fan would I like to be a celebrity investor? Like a small part-owner.

"I said, 'I think that's a little stretched, I've been to Carrow Road once, my mum took me,' so I decided not to invest. And since then they're on a run, so what do I know?"
