“I was very happy with” – Bruno Fernandes hails his former Man Utd head coach

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes still has fond memories of his time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Portuguese star joined the Premier League giants in January 2020, completing a transfer from Sporting CP.
Since then, he went on to play under recurring MUFC head coaches who preceded the incumbent, Michael Carrick. Nevertheless, his very first United manager still holds a special place in his heart.

Fernandes has been away on international duty over the past couple of weeks. The 32-year-old is considered a protagonist for Portugal, who have been flawless during the extended break, despite all the drama surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s shocking exit.
The Selecao began the UEFA Nations League with a slim win over Wales, before beating Norway in Bruno’s absence.
The United skipper overcame a slight physical issue as he returned for the Copenhagen showdown against Denmark and produced two assists that helped his nation prevail 4-2.
On Sunday, Portugal will end the window by hosting Norway in the return fixture. Therefore, Fernandes had the opportunity to look back on his relationship with one of the nation’s favourite sons, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The playmaker remains grateful for Man Utd’s 1999 hero, who brought him to the club and helped him settle at Carrington.
“Ole was a very important manager for me. He was the one who gave me a chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Fernandes via Beanyman Sports.
“I was very happy with the time I spent with him. We haven’t spoken about this clash [against Norway]. We speak once in a while about football but we haven’t had the chance to speak about this game.
“I hope I can send him a message at the end of the game that is good for me and not for him.”

While Solskjaer was sacked in December 2021, Fernandes went on to become Man Utd’s most important player over the past decade.
The Norwegian’s successors, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, and Carrick, each had their own favourites, but Bruno has probably been the one constant presence in the starting lineup.
The Maia native has been growing from strength to strength, reaching the peak of his powers last term when he was named the Premier League’s Player of the Year after breaking the record for the number of assists per season (21).
