Ipswich Town complete signing of Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios on a contract through 2030, adding a 27-year-old Argentina international to the newly promoted Premier League side.

The fee is undisclosed, with Sky Germany reporting a €25m base and a further €5m in bonuses.

Palacios departs after six and a half years at the BayArena. He made 186 competitive appearances and scored 15 goals, helping Leverkusen win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double during an unbeaten 2023/24 domestic campaign.

His departure represents a significant late alteration to Carles Martínez’s midfield plans.

At international level, Palacios has 41 caps, winning the 2022 World Cup and Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, then helping Argentina reach another World Cup final earlier this year.
