Iraola admits lack of ‘freshness’ a factor in goalless draw with Fulham

Andoni Iraola admits Liverpool lacked freshness as they were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at Anfield.

The Reds were unable to build on their midweek Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid, with Iraola pointing to the short turnaround between the two games as a factor in a below-par attacking display.

“I think there is a lack of freshness, definitely,” Iraola said. “We cannot hide it.

“I think it’s the worst turnaround in terms of, I think, it’s 60-something hours between the games after a very big game the other day.

“But this is going to happen more times, maybe with one more day, but sometimes it’s going to happen the same way during the season and we have to adapt to these circumstances.”

Iraola felt Liverpool needed a moment of individual quality or a set-piece breakthrough to overcome a well-organised Fulham side but conceded his team did not offer enough going forward.

“It’s this kind of game that you need to win sometimes with a set play, sometimes with a shot from the edge, sometimes from a moment of brilliance from the offensive players, and we hadn’t had that today,” he added.

“We’ve been clearly not as good offensively as we’ve been other days.”
