Jack Hinshelwood is a doubt for Brighton’s Premier League clash against Chelsea on Sunday after picking up an injury in training.

Hinshelwood produced a stellar performance on opening day, scoring twice as Fabian Hurzeler’s side romped to a 4-0 victory against Aston Villa.

However, the 21-year-old was absent from Brighton’s 4-0 win over Tromso in the second leg of their Conference League play-off on Thursday.

The Seagulls face a quick turnaround and return to league action on Sunday when they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on a Chelsea side who have won both competitive matches so far under new boss Xabi Alonso.

However, Hinshelwood could be unavailable after Hurzeler confirmed that the midfielder picked up a ‘small issue’ on Wednesday.

‘He had a small issue in training yesterday, so we have to go day by day with him and see how it progresses over the next few days,’ the Brighton boss said after his side’s victory over Tromso.

‘I can’t give you a clear schedule for when he will be back. It could be a really short thing, or it could be a few days longer.

‘Let’s see how he presents himself, and then we can make a decision.’

Hinshelwood joins Kaoru Mitoma, Evan Ferguson, Stefanos Tzimas and Yankuba Minteh on the sidelines for Brighton.

Striker Georginio Rutter is also a doubt after missing Thursday’s game with a minor issue.
