Jack Wilshere wants Arsenal star at Luton Town - Celtic, Rangers & 4 others also keen

Several clubs are eyeing up a shock move for Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman ahead of the January transfer window

Arsenal teenage sensation Max Dowman has emerged as a major point of transfer speculation as clubs already plan for the January transfer window.

The 16-year-old made his debut last season in a 5-0 victory against Leeds United in what was the first of six appearances in the league, including one start.

He also made history when he scored the second in a 2-0 win over Everton in March, becoming the youngest ever goal scorer in Premier League history at 16-years-old and 73 days.

The youngster was part of Mikel Arteta’s side that won the Premier League last season, and has already made one appearance for the Gunners this year, coming off the bench against Brighton.

He also impressed in a 4-2 EFL Cup victory against Ipswich Town in which he scored twice.

But it’s now being reported by Teamtalk that there are several clubs eyeing a move for the wonderkid winger ahead of the winter market, and here we look at those named with an interest…

Burnley have made a difficult start to the season under new manager Nicky Hayen, with the team bottom of the Championship during the September international break.

The Clarets will be keen to bolster their attacking options when the winter market opens, and Dowman is now on their radar after his promising performances for Arsenal.

With a lack of viable right-wing options, he could slot into the team quite naturally, which could be quite enticing for Arsenal.

Wolves

Wolves have made a promising start to life under Cesar Peixoto, as they target promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

And the Old Gold are keen on a deal to sign Dowman in the January window, in a move that they hope could aid their bid for a top two finish this season.

Wolves have the likes of Rodrigo Gomes and Bertrand Traore to choose from on the right, so it's unclear how much game time the youngster would really get at Molineux, as he would likely be a backup option.

Norwich City

Norwich City have an obvious connection to Arsenal through their director of football Stuart Webber, who was previously the loan manager at the Emirates.

And he will be heavily involved with the club’s interest in Dowman, and that could prove key to having an advantage in the scramble for his temporary signature.

The Canaries' current right-wing options include moving Jovon Mokoma over from the middle, and it is an area with a lack of quality depth, so Dowman could be a natural fit to step into the squad in Jaunary.

Rangers

Rangers will be competing for the Premiership title this season, and will want to bolster their attacking options in January to give them an edge on rivals Celtic.

The Glasgow outfit are one of the sides keen on a deal to sign the Arsenal starlet.

Luton Town

Former Arsenal player and underage coach Jack Wilshere is in charge at Luton Town, and he is interested in bringing Dowman to Kenilworth Road.

While competing in League One may be a disadvantage, that connection could prove crucial to securing a deal for the 16-year-old.

Wilshere confirmed that the club failed in an attempt to sign Dowman in the summer, with the Luton boss looking to give him the right environment to prepare him for a bigger role at the Emirates.

"It was just about giving him the right environment, the right challenge at the right time and just get him ready for Mikel," said Wilshere, via Luton Today, earlier this month.

"Mikel has done a great job as well over the last six months with him and there’s definitely more to come.

"The challenge for Max is to make sure it is really, really difficult for Mikel to leave him out and I have no doubt he can do that.

"I’m not going stand here and say we taught him loads and loads, it was giving him the right challenge whether that be in the 18s, or when we decided to put him in the U21s.

"He can do everything. You’d ask him to do something once and he would understand it straight away. It was a pleasure and now I watch on like an Arsenal fan and someone who worked with him.

"Mikel as well has done a top job with him and now it’s his challenge to get into the team.

"That's a mentality thing for him and I’m sure he will do it this season.”

Coventry City

Coventry are in the Premier League, and will be hoping to survive in the division in their first year back since 2001.

Frank Lampard has Dowman on his radar as a deal that could boost their chances of avoiding the drop back to the Championship in 2027.

Dowman has already shown that he has the quality to play top-flight football on a consistent basis and Lampard's historical record of developing young talent could be just as tempting to Arsenal as the opportunity for the teenage sensation to remain in the Premier League, which would only further his development if he received ample game-time in the West Midlands.

Celtic

Celtic are set to rival Rangers, and a host of other clubs, to the signing of Dowman this January, and it’s understood that Arsenal could be open to a deal at that stage.

The Glasgow giants are seeking a sixth league title in a row under Martin O’Neill, but have lost their last three games in a row across all competitions and the Hoops' attack could certainly benefit from some fresh quality and dynamism.
